Privacy Policy
Last updated October 13, 2026
This policy explains what BetMate collects, why, who can see it, and what you can do about it. We collect only what we need to run the service, and we don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
What we collect
- Account info: your name, username, and whichever sign-in methods you use: email address, phone number, or a Google or Apple account identifier. If you set a password, we store only a salted hash of it.
- What you do in the app: friends, events you host or join and your RSVPs, posts, bets, offers, group-bet picks, results, payment and punishment markers, party games you play, and your record.
- Technical data: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and IP addresses and phone or email identifiers used briefly for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Our hosts also keep standard server logs.
- Usage and errors: which days you used BetMate and whether on the iPhone app or the web, and error messages when something breaks. We use these only in aggregate (for example, how many people used BetMate today) to run and improve the service.
We don't use advertising or third-party analytics trackers, and the only cookies we set are the ones needed to sign you in.
Who can see what
- Your name, username, and avatar color are visible to other users.
- Your email and phone number are never shown to other users. People who already know them can use them to find you.
- Event content, including guest lists (if the host shows them), posts, bets, and who picked which side, is visible to that event's guests. Anyone with an invite link can see the event's title, time, place, description, and hosts before joining.
- One-off bets are visible to the people in them, and open offers to the maker's friends. Your record and head-to-head stats are visible to your friends.
How we use it
Only to run BetMate: signing you in, showing your events, bets, games, and records, sending sign-in codes, password-reset emails, and notifications you can turn off, keeping the service secure, and counting overall usage so we can improve it.
Service providers
These companies process data on our behalf, only to run the service:
- Supabase (database) and Vercel (app hosting). Your data is stored in the United States.
- Twilio, which sends text-message sign-in codes, if you use a phone number.
- Resend, which sends email (password resets and notifications), if you use an email address.
- Google and Apple, if you choose to sign in with them. They share your name, email, and an account identifier with us.
Sports odds come from Kalshi and Polymarket, but we never send them any of your information. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect people's safety.
How long we keep it
- Account data is kept while your account exists.
- Sign-in sessions expire after 30 days. Sign-in codes and rate-limit records are deleted within a day of expiring. Live party-game sessions are deleted after two days.
- When you delete your account, we remove your email, phone, password, and Google or Apple links right away, cancel your open offers, and remove you from friend lists and events you didn't host. Bets you already made stay in the other people's records, shown as “Deleted user”.
Your choices and rights
You can change your name and username in your profile, turn off notification emails in Settings, and delete your account any time from Profile → Settings → Delete account. Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EU), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your data. We honor those requests for every user, and we don't treat you differently for making one.
For privacy requests or questions, email jolee1907@gmail.com.
Security
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords and session tokens, and strict access controls on our database. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
BetMate is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a minor has an account, let us know and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect.
